Celia Sofia

Pianist | Improviser

My Story

Celia mainly studied the classical piano tradition, and only recently in her career has been attracted to the field of improvisation. At present, she is taking a Master´s degree at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, with renowned teachers such as Barry Green, Laura Roberts, Gareth Williams and Malcolm Edmondstone, with the enthusiastic support of the centre (among others) towards her own improvisation projects.

She was born in Gijón, Spain on 2nd May, 1995. She started practicing the flute as an extracurricular activity when she was 8 years old. She continued her flute studies with her teacher Dolores Menéndez at The Professional Conservatory of Music and Dance in Gijón up to her second year of middle school and studied under Raquel Fernandez Berdión too in order to perfect her technique of the flute while studying complementary piano formation with Magda Danielyan.

In 2010, she embraced the piano as her main instrument and she was placed under the wings of Nariné Karapetyan, a teacher from The Julián Orbón Municipal Conservatory. Furthermore, in 2010 she started studying under Pablo Ortega and Ilya Goldfarb in order to perfect her skills in harmony. In 2013 she began studying at The Eduardo Martinez Torner Higher Conservatory of Music in Oviedo, having Roberto Méndez González as her tutor along with her formation studies with Nariné Karapetyan. She studied the first year of Higher Grade there and completed her studies with a certificate of honor in piano. She studied the following three years at the Katarina Gurska School of Music and Foundation in Madrid under Nino Kereseledize, obtaining the highest grades in her exams on her instrument. She finished her degree of piano in June of 2017, with the highest mark in the final concert.

Celia has given recitals in The Evaristo Valle Museum in Gijón, The Julián Orbón Auditorium in Avilés, the Baragaña Multipurpose Centre in Candás, The Manuel Fernández Rodríguez Conservatory in Langreo, The Professional Conservatory of Music and Dance in Gijón, The Príncipe Felipe Auditorium in Asturias and The Canónigos Theatre, in La Granja de San Ildefonso, Segovia.
